Floating through these historic passages, with the sound of water echoing around us and the beam of our headlamps illuminating the way, felt like a true exploration.
Our guides expertly navigated the flow, pointing out interesting features and sharing more fascinating details about the tunnels’ construction and purpose. There were even a few gentle twists and turns that added a touch of playful excitement to the ride. Emerging from each tunnel into the bright Hawaiian sunshine felt like discovering a hidden world.
Along the way, we encountered a few minor “rapids” – gentle drops that added a little splash and a giggle to the journey. Mostly, though, the pace was wonderfully relaxed, allowing us to fully appreciate the unique perspective and the tranquility of floating through these historic waterways.
